2017 NFL Draft – Potential Falcons Draft Picks

DOrlando Ledbetter answer to everything is trade up or pick the best available player in the draft.

I’m not a fan of his philosophy. I refuse to give up a piece of the future in order to get a “prospect” that may not contribute immediately.

That’s what the Falcons need. Someone who will contribute immediately. Preferably an edge rusher opposite Vic Beasley. A Defensive Tackle to spell Dontari Poe, Grady Jarrett, Jack Crawford, Adrian Clayborn, Rashede Hageman in Quinn’s dline rotation.

He’s the same guy that suggested the Falcons that the take RB Todd Gurley. Although he’s a awesome talent. Falcons would have missed out on 2016 sack leader Vic Beasley or Khalil Mack (If Raiders would have passed on him) who was taken by Oakland Raiders with the 5th pick.

Beasley has been a vital part of the revamped Falcons defensive line.

With that said, Falcons should continue to add pieces to either the defensive line, or right guard opposite Ryan Schraeder. Vacated by recently retired Chris Chester.

Here’s a list of prospects Falcons should take in Thursday April 27 NFL Draft.

Offensive Lineman – Cam Robinson Alabama 6’6 322

In a game against Myles Garrett, Robinson had a good inday. A p my F a few With Chris Chester retirement, Robinson is simply too good to pass up.

Offensive Guard – Dan Feeney Indiana 6’5 305

Feeney fits perfectly in the falcons zone scheme. Intelligence, athleticism and ability to pass block. He’s an instant upgrade over Chester.

Offensive Guard – Forest Lamp Indiana 6’4 309

Former tackle opened holes for running back Tevin Coleman at Indiana. Scouts like him better as a guard due to his lack of arm length. Without a doubt one of the best linemen in the draft.

Edge Rusher – Takkarist McKinley UCLA 6’2 250

Draft stock dropped a bit due to off-season shoulder surgery. Fits perfectly in Dan Quinn’s fast and physical defense. His relentless style of play could serve him right in Atlanta.

Edge Rusher – Carl Lawson Auburn 6’2 260

Aggressive pass rusher with adequate athletic ability. Uses his hands well and has good strength.

Defensive End – Taco Charlton Michigan 6’6 277

Tremendous athletic ability for a guy his size. Quinn could do a number of things with him. If he’s available…. Falcons should not hesitate to take him.

DE/OLB T.J. Watt Wisconsin 6’4 252

Brother of Houston Texans star defensive end J.J. Watt he’s a relentless player like his brother as well as decent run defender. If Charlton Feeney Lamp are gone for whatever reason…. Watt should be taken.

Other prospects to watch for

Tanoh Kpassagnon, LB Zach Cunningham, DE/OLB Tim Williams, S Jabril Peppers, DE Chris Harris, OL Dion Dawkins, OL Taylor Moton, DT Montravious Adams, DE/OLB Derek Rivers, TE Bucky Hodges VTech, DT Larry Ogunjobi Charlotte, LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin Tennessee, RB Matt Dayes NC State, OL Dorian Johnson Pittsburgh, TE Jonnu Smith Florida International, S Tedric Thompson Colorado, WR Isaiah McKenzie Georgia, DE Haddon Reddick.

Final Thoughts – Falcons desperately need a pass rusher opposite Vic Beasley and Taco Charlton fits the build. HOWEVER!!! I am not convinced they will keep the 31st pick. They lost 6 round pick to the Andy Levitre trade so trading down could be a real option.

If the Falcons should trade down. Derek Rivers of Youngstown could be a surprise pick. According to Thomas Dimitroff Rivers fits the build of what Coach Quinn likes in an edge rusher.

What are your thoughts FalconsFam?

What should the Falcons do with the 31st pick?
