Thoughts On Hugh Thornton’s Sudden Retirement

Apparently guard Hugh Thornton’s ankle injury led to his retirement. Thornton was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the third round in 2013 out of Illinois.

He started 32 of 37 games, and when he became available in the off-season. Falcons signed him to a one year deal 690,000 to compete for the right guard position that was vacated by 11 year veteran Chris Chester.

Wes Schweitzer, Ben Garland, and rookie Sean Harlow (everyone’s favorite) are expected to compete for the starting job.

Final Thoughts – I was obviously taken off guard by Thornton’s sudden retirement. Although I don’t know the severity of his injury. I’m going to say his heart wasn’t into the game or he felt like he couldn’t play at a decent level without looking like a damn scrub. That I understand….

But hey! That’s my opinion…..

Let me know what you think!
